A Letter from Dave Levin

Dear Friends of KIPP NYC,

Due to concerns regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and following advice to limit non-essential mass gatherings, we regretfully must cancel this year’s annual KIPP Casino Night event that was scheduled for April. While the event provides crucial funding to the incredible work of the KIPP students, parents, alumni and staff, and provides an opportunity for us to gather with friends to celebrate KIPPs success and honor your generosity, we must rightfully prioritize the health and safety of our community as we navigate through this emerging health crisis.

As you know, KIPP NYC is network of free, public charter schools serving 7,894 students and alumni from kindergarten through college. KIPP currently operates 15 schools in New York City and plans to open 5 more schools in the next 5 years. Over the last 25 years, KIPP NYC has worked to help students excel in school and beyond, and the results are remarkable: KIPP NYC students graduate college at 4X the rate of their peers, and many alumni have returned to New York City to teach, mentor and contribute broadly to use their education to strengthen our community.

For those of you who have already purchased tickets or made a contribution, please feel free to reach out to us at giving@kippnyc.org with any questions about a refund or converting your purchased tickets into a donation. With the financial markets in turmoil and all of us focused on the risks of the Coronavirus, I know it is at best an awkward time to be asking for you still to donate to KIPP NYC, and I hope you forgive me for asking. Casino Night is our single biggest fundraising night of the year and with everything going on right now, the KIPPsters and their families need a strong and stable KIPP more than ever.

Should you wish to support KIPP NYC and our students, please click here to make a donation. Your donations will continue to be matched, dollar for dollar, by Larry Robbins, Glenview’s CEO and KIPP NYC’s Board Chair. Should this not be a good time for you to donate, please think of the KIPPsters again when times are more normal.

The KIPP students and all of us at KIPP NYC are deeply grateful for your continued faith and generosity. We wish you and yours good health and safety as we find our way through this Coronavirus crisis.

One Love,

Dave Levin
