At KIPP STAR Harlem Elementary, we believe our students are the future of Harlem, and we prepare them with the knowledge, confidence, and resilience to lead the way. Our classrooms are joyful, supportive spaces where children explore, question, and think critically every day. Students build a strong foundation in reading, math, and science while also discovering their talents in the arts, physical education, and enrichment. After-school clubs extend the learning and fun. Each week, the whole school gathers for high-energy celebrations filled with awards and culture lessons. Together with families, we create a vibrant community that celebrates every child and because our very own STAR Middle School is across the hall, families enjoy a seamless K-8 journey all under one welcoming roof.
Reading… it’s our thing! Joy and a love of books shine throughout our school. We focus on strong phonics and our own Guided Reading program, where small groups of 10–12 children read at their own level to build decoding, fluency, and comprehension. Starting in 2nd grade, Shared Text lessons let students dive deeper—annotating, discussing, and discovering the big ideas in every story—so every child gets just-right support and challenge to become a confident, curious reader. Families love seeing their children race to choose new books and share favorite stories at home. With every turn of the page, our students grow into lifelong readers and thinkers.
