Alumni Siblings to Volunteer at our Food Pantry
"KIPP has provided me with the tools and exposure to be able to reach different heights and dream bigger." – Lisandro, KIPP NYC alum, Cornell University 2020
Lisandro and Lisanna
On top of their internships this summer with KIPP NYC, siblings and KIPP alumni Lisandro and Lisanna (SUNY New Paltz, 2020) also volunteered each week to pack and distribute food and supplies as part of KIPP NYC’s Food Pantry.
Lisandro and Lisanna are part of a group of 50 weekly volunteers who fill boxes and bags with food, load and unload the U-Hauls, and manage distribution to 1,000 families and community members. Since March 2020, more than 150,000 meals have been distributed to KIPP families, as well as others in our communities. KIPP also provided food directly to Mott Haven Academy, another public charter school in the Bronx.
We are grateful for the support from our partners without which this program would not be possible: Food Bank for New York City; KIPP NYC College Prep’s purveyors: Baldor, Riviera Produce, Chef’s Warehouse, London Meats; Good+ Foundation, which provides diapers and feminine products; and the Relieve Project, which provided us with volunteers.
