Summer Superstar: Veronica
Right now I'm looking at the University of Rochester because of their pre-med program. I think I'd like to be a neurosurgeon. Also, in the future I want to create my own foundation where I help young girls of color pursue careers in STEM.
Veronica
KIPP NYC College Prep High School senior Veronica kept herself busy over the summer of 2020! She participated in the Expeditionaries program at the Basecamp School where she worked with a team of students to develop a concept for a mobile app that connects businesses to Black and brown vendors. She furthered her education by taking a college-level course called “Exploring the Mind” as part of Washington University in St. Louis’ Early College Scholars program. She also enrolled in Lehman College’s College Now program, taking a course called “Problems and Philosophy.”
For her senior year, she’s the president of the high school’s young women’s group, Rosa L.U.K., which works to empower girls just like her. This semester, she’s taking AP Psychology, AP Microeconomics, AP Calculus AB, and a project-based AP seminar course. She’s looking forward to the college application process and building connections with her teachers despite the distance. In this environment, Veronica is “celebrating any wins even if they are small.” We have a feeling that there are many small and big wins in her future.
